Customize Your Jeans

December 21st, 2008

When you buy a pair of jeans there is inevitably something that doesn’t work out about them. For me it is often the ankle and the heel. Jeans tend to fit me fairly well throughout but in those two areas I still have a hard time finding a pair that fit perfectly. This often means that I will be forced to customize these jeans to work for me. I have three major pairs of shoes that I wear with jeans my converse chucks, black dress loafers and flip flops. Often times if I go with jean that already has a boot cut fit they work for the loafers but I end up dragging my heel under the other shoes. Sometimes this can give you a nice distressed look to the heel of your jean, but on a rainy day it just means frozen feet and disgusting muddy heels on your jeans.

My simple answer is to go with a boot fit jean that doesn’t drag under my heel to much. Then cut the cuffs of the jeans vertically along the inside and outside seam to open the boot cut up further. This cut will look odd at first but after a few washings it will look nice and distressed and ad some personality to your jeans. The other answer is to cut the heel of your jeans out. Be careful when you do this and always cut on the side of caution. Once you cut the fabric away it cannot be put back. This cut will also look strange at first but after washing the jeans it will start to develop a nice distressed look. I always think it is better to cut your jeans specifically to what you needs are. Take the time to decide how to alter your jeans to make the work better for you next time you are looking to buy a pair.

Your Online Brand Is You

December 21st, 2008

You’ve decided to make the leap. You’re going to start selling your products and
services online. You’re excited. Wow! Millions of people will be able to buy from you.

Let’s see — what will you need to do first? Yep. You’ll need to create your own Web
site.

A week or two later, your Web site is complete. You’re thrilled. It’s exactly what you
wanted, your own storefront online. You get to work and do everything you’re
advised to do: you send out news releases and submit your site to all the search
engines. You promote your URL on everything from your business stationery to the
side of your car.

Six months after that, you’re starting to see a trickle of traffic, but it’s hardly the
flood you imagined it would be, and you lose heart and interest. The Internet, you
decide, is a sham, a haven for sp*mmers and assorted lunatics. You vow that you’re
staying with the safe and comfy offline world, and you vow never to be taken in
again.

What did you do wrong?

Oddly enough, you did nothing wrong. You did everything right — BUT what about
branding?

In the real world you create your brand without too much effort. People judge you
by your physical presence: by your office, your clothes, your stationery, your
advertising and your voice on the phone. In the virtual world, you lose all those
valuable cues which tell people how to pigeonhole you. You must replace them with
something.

Offline, your brand is you. It’s you online, too. However, it takes more effort to
create. You need to create an online persona and a Unique Selling Point. A tagline,
or motto, is also helpful.

Important: There is no way you can do this stuff wrong. You just need to do it. If
your goals change at some time in the future, not a problem — just change your
online persona, your USP and your tagline. Then hey presto chango, a whole new
you/ brand.

Also important: don’t be afraid to be bold. Share your passion. If you’re enthusiastic
about what you do, others will be too. You must be enthusiastic to create a
memorable brand.

=>Your online persona

In the online world, you can be whatever you aspire to be, by creating an online
persona. Take a look at these three sites:

1. Judy Cullins’s online persona is “The Book Coach”.

http://www.bookcoaching.com

2. Tara Calishain’s online persona is that of an online research expert, with
“ResearchBuzz”.

http://www.researchbuzz.com/

3. Jane Teresa Anderson’s online persona is that of a dream expert with “Jane’s
Dream Network”.

http://www.dream.net.au

Judy, Tara and Jane have all created an online persona which is easy to remember.
You can do the same.

Start by thinking about what you’re passionate about, and what you hope to achieve.

=> Your USP (Unique Selling Point)

Your USP (although you probably won’t spell it out for people directly on your site or
anywhere else) needs to be evident in everything on your site during the first year or
so. It’s your mission statement if you like, or your compass.

Your USP tells people what to expect from you. This, combined with your online
persona, is your brand. Your USP must relate directly to your audience.

Write down this question: “In one sentence of 25 words or less, what matters most
to me?” Answer the question.

Your answer won’t appear on your site, it’s strictly for you. Another way of putting it
would be: “Where’s my passion here?”

Your answer is your USP. You don’t need to share your answer. However, keep it in
mind. Look on the answer as your road map for the site. If everything you write/
create for the site harks back to those 25 words, there’s no way you can go wrong in
creating a coherent online persona. And your own brand.

=> Your tagline

From your 25 words, create a tagline/ slogan. You don’t need to use the exact
words, just the general idea behind them. For example:

My tagline for Creative Small Biz is:
Turn your talent into a flourishing business.

For Creative Copywriting it’s:
Words That Work.

For Digital-e it’s:
Info To Go.

Your tagline keeps you focused, it’s a reminder to yourself.

There you have it. It’s easy to create your own online brand. How much does it cost?
Not a cent, just some thinking time. Its value to you however, is immense. With your
own brand, you will stand out online. (And you’ll have a lot of fun, too.)

death

December 17th, 2008

Come here come here, Let me be lain into your arms, I am a strong maid and nothing can scare, There is nothing I am afraid of, I want to fly up, Higher and higher in the sky, Can you tell me what happens? When someone goes without telling a reason, From this world for ever, Let my soul be departed. For a moment to see some realities, I am closing my eyes to see the miracle, I want to travel in all over the world, In a freedom like a bird, By using these magical words. Oh death, oh death, oh death, Covering myself with black fur, With a mane made of cursing pearls, Let me be a part of those, Sleeping in silence under six feet, They do not talk they don’t meet, A place where is only an entrance but no exit, Only a fog near a tree in obscure night, No passage for a single piece of light, We can feel the darkness but can’t breathe, Let me be under that “six feet” Oh death oh death, Send me that angel, Who can make me sleep? In a lap of separate world, Different from that world. Where I live, Don’t loose you grip over me, You are my destiny, You are an end, I can’t have an escape, Even if I try to run, How can I deny? I know you won’t let me down, So don’t waste more time, Take me with you and let me fly. Higher in the sky, Oh heath, oh death.

Asian décor trends

December 16th, 2008

The Rise of Asian Décor

The recent surge in popularity of Asian décor can be partly attributed to its look of serenity: it graces spaces with a peaceful, natural feel, serving as an antidote to stress. Asian décor design elements are characterized by clean lines and simple forms. The effect is subtle yet dramatic, and creates a tranquil ambience.

Indeed, the essence of Asian décor is in its simplicity. The “less is more” philosophy con also be applied to Asian décor accessories, when carefully selected and placed within a designated space.

Furthermore, Asian décor harmonizes particularly well with contemporary styled interiors. Typically, the furniture is low and formed using clean straight lines; while Asian décor accents are often dramatic and add a unique and elegant touch to any modern interior.

Finally, the current shift away from against mass-produce looks and a desire for more unique, artist-inspired pieces explains the increasing appeal of Asian décor. With a few well-selected Asian décor accents, we can confer a singular and authentic feel upon any room.

The End of Zen Décor?

A decade ago, the most successful Asian décor style in the West was modern Japanese design - commonly referred to as Zen design. Zen design uses very clean lines and geometrical figures to project a sense of minimalism dominated by black, grey and white colors.

But recently, homeowners began turning away from the rigorous rules governing Zen décor, which are often regarded as too strict and requiring drastic changes to existing décor schemes.

The new Asian décor style is more relaxed and informal. It also facilitates more room to be creative, a reality that has seduced numerous interior designers and décor aficionados. It is certainly far easier to add elegant Asian-styled flourishes to a room, with a few artistic décor accents or furniture items. Furthermore, with bright colors and unique forms, new Asian décor accents project a warmer look and feel than their Zen counterparts.

Incorporating Asian Décor Accents

Asian décor accents and contemporary art creations, by artists and craft masters from Thailand and surrounding nations, are captivating art and décor fans around the world.

Interior designers and consumers alike are increasingly open to experimenting with different design elements and textures; and to blending contemporary Asian-inspired décor creations with Western design elements to create a unique, personalized look and feel.

This new trend, sometimes referred as “fusion”, offers endless possibilities. A carefully selected modern Asian décor creation can complement an already exciting room design in a subtle way, or as a bold and visually impressive centerpiece. Either way, this fusion of modern Asian décor elements with other modern features is easily accomplished and provides an opportunity to create a truly unique and distinctive home environment.

Another interesting point about fusing Eastern with Western décor is the freedom this ethos gives people to personalized their spaces. It’s surely more desirable than being restricted by a set of rules regarding minimal color combinations, shape, balance, and the need to leave lots of empty space. After all, this design evolution increases the options for homeowners or designers to follow their personal inspirations. Everyone is free to play with colors, materials. And shapes to create artful atmospheres that feature a distinctive Asian décor flair.

It’s that time of the year again!

December 16th, 2008

With the last days of autumn upon us, it is time to consider the annual maintenance of your fireplace. To ensure that your fireplace is in proper working condition and will keep you warm on those cold winter nights, please consider the following tips.

One must always be sure to exercise care when using a fireplace. It is also recommended to never leave your fireplace unattended when children are around. As you well know, fire is extremely dangerous and has the potential to cause immense damage.

A fireplace should only be used for a short duration. Four to five hours should be sufficient to remove the winter chill in your home. Be sure to keep the glass open to allow air to be drawn up the chimney, and keep the screen closed to make sure that no burning embers can escape. It is also advisable to open a window slightly, to keep your home from getting smoky.

A fire should be started using the following steps:

1. Open the glass doors and pull the screen aside. 2. Place your kindling, newspaper, and logs inside. 3. Open the damper completely, and a window slightly. 4. Test the air flow by lighting a match and blowing it out, watching to ensure that the smoke rises through the chimney. 5. Carefully light your fire, and draw the screen.

Children should be kept away from the fire at all times. You should also be sure to use a non-flammable rug in front of your fireplace, in case burning embers have a chance to escape. You should always keep your fireplace tools close by, in case you have to adjust the fire.

If you are using fireplace coals, please take extra care when cleaning up. Fireplace coals can remain hot for a few days after use. To remove the ashes, be sure that the damper is open. This will ensure that the airborne ashes are drawn up into the chimney. Wear a dust mask too, as this can be messy work and it is not advisable to inhale the fine particulate matter. Use a shovel to clean up the ashes, and place them in a metal can away from any combustibles.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your fireplace, contact your local chimney sweep professional. By following these guidelines, you and your family can stay safe and warm in the coming winter months!

Crucification

December 14th, 2008

Most of know how Jesus was crucified. Do we ever ask ourselves about the crucifying of our flesh? What it means and how do we accomplish it. Well lets see what the Bible says about crucifying the flesh. Look at Romans 6:5 it says If we have been united with him like this his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sinbecause anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Now look at Galatians 2:17 it says If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! If I rebuild what I destroyed, I prove that I am a lawbreaker. For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!

Now look at Galatians 5:22 it says But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Living as children of Light, look at Ephesians 4:20 it says You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of you minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all member of one body. In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

We must imitate Christ’s humility. Look at Philippians 2:1 it says If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from is love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in sprit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus; please continue reading the chapter.

Yes, there are rules for Holy Living. Look at Colossians 3:1 it says Since, you then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart, since as member of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach the admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

In closing look at Colossians 2:9 it says For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them.

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

Love Always,
Your Sister in Christ,
Mellody Davis

Trademark: Do I Need One for My Business Name and Logo?

December 13th, 2008

Wondering if a trademark is important to you as a business owner? Let’s start with the basics. A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, or logo that distinguishes and identifies the source of goods of one company or person from another. For example, the name Kraft is trademarked, as is Nike’s “swoosh” logo.

The list of what constitutes a trademark is long. A trademark can also be granted to unique packaging such as the shape of Coca-cola’s bottle, building designs, color, sound, and even fragrance. Service marks receive the same legal protection, but are used to distinguish services instead of products.

Your business can acquire trade or service marks through the consistent use of a mark. The symbols TM and SM demonstrate the owner treats the mark as a trademark or service mark. There is no requirement to federally register at the trademark office. You are still protected under intellectual property laws. However, if another party uses your mark it can be more difficult to prove your ownership.

To register online with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), go to www.uspto.gov. There is a registration fee for each name, logo, and slogan. Federal registration ensures another party is not already using your mark. A registered trademark gives you exclusive rights to use a mark with your particular goods or services. The USPTO can only register trademarks for marks that are used across state lines. A website customers can access in other areas can satisfy this requirement. Otherwise, you will only be able to apply for a state trademark.

Only a mark registered and approved by the USPTO can use the ® symbol. Since the application process can take many months to complete, use the TM or SM symbol in the meantime to establish your intention to use the mark as a trademark. Make sure you keep records as to when your mark was first used in commerce and regulate the use of your mark in the marketplace.

The Best Information on Baby, Crib and Kid’s Bedding

December 10th, 2008

Nothing in the world is more special than becoming a parent. In order to prepare for one of the best days of your life, you need to make sure you have everything you need for the arrival of your new bundle of joy especially baby bedding. One of the most fun activities for soon to be mothers and fathers are preparing the nursery. There are so many choices to consider and one of the biggest is color. You don’t want anything too harsh as you want to create a warm and calming effect in the room. Once you have chosen the right color, it makes it easier to decide on baby bedding. The selection of crib bedding and kids bedding on the market today is awesome.

So once you have the right color for your child’s room, choosing a theme and picking your baby bedding is next. There are so many fun ways to decorate and some of the more popular choices are animals and nature, denim, floral, nursery rhymes and fairy tales, bugs and butterflies, sand, sea and Hawaiian prints, patchwork, jungle, solids and stripes, stars and sky and finally the wild west. There are only a few great themes, of course you come up with your own. Finding the right crib bedding will be a snap once you have your theme in mind. Now if your child is a bit older, some great kids bedding themes include Barbie Princess, Bob the Builder, Care Bears, Disney Princess, Hello Kitty, Spiderman, Spongebob Squarepants, Scooby Doo and Strawberry Shortcake.

There are some leading designers who have ventured into crib bedding including Kimberly Grant, Glenna Jean, Osh Kosh B’Gosh and Laura Ashley. Other leading brands of baby bedding include Kidsline, Banana Fish, California Kids, Celebrations and Bed Time Originals to name a few. As your kids get older, bedding that is more colorful may help in entertaining them while they are in their room but not sleeping.
