There Are Assorted Ways to Get Discounts on Car Insurance

February 7th, 2009

As insurance premiums keep increasing, everybody is looking for discounted car insurance rates. There are lots of assorted types of price reductions available and if you can save some money, then why not? Below is a list of general deductions that may be available to you. Check with your insurance firm to see if you’re entitled.

Individual Insurance Discounts

Person-related deductions are ones that depend on the driver’s own personal situation, status and driving history.

  • Going to Traffic School If by any chance you have recently been ticketed, you may attend traffic school either online or through a traditional setting to have your ticket expunged from your driving record. Indirectly, this will have an effect of lowering your yearly insurance rates
  • Good Student deductions. Insurance companies know that students with higher GPAs have a lower risk of being involved in an accident. Therefore, they will usually offer price reductions on your insurance policy.
  • Belong to a Professional Organization. Many times, if you belong to a trade or professional organization, you’ll be eligible to receive additional discounts on your car insurance. This can include professions such as registered nurses, pharmacists, engineers, etc.
  • discounts for senior citizens. People over 55 can usually receive deductions on their auto insurance. Sometimes, you may also need to take a defensive driving course to qualify for the insurance discount. Double check with your local DMV to find out what classes are available.
  • Loyalty Credits. If you’ve been a loyal, solid, long-standing client of your insurer, they may reward your business with discounts too.
  • Keep a Clean Driving Record. If you’ve not been involved in any car accidents or have had any tickets for traffic violations, you should be able to get your insurance rates reduced.
  • Multi-line Insurance Discount. If you have more than one type of insurance policy with the same insurer, many times you’ll also be able to get lower automobile insurance rates from them.
  • Car-Related Deductions

The type of car you drive can be a huge factor in ascertaining the amount you pay for car insurance. There are also extra features that you can add to your car to make it easier to insure.

    1. Air Bags. They present an added safety feature to your car and insurance agents love these.
    2. Anti-Lock Brakes System (ABS). Many automobiles on the road today are equipped with ABS. Many auto insurance underwriters offer deductions if your car is fit with this type of braking system and many states even require the insurance provider to do so.
    3. Anti-Theft Devices. Installation of anti-theft devices like LowJack is a way to get lower insurance rates. There may be an added bonus if the alarm automatically turns on when the car’s turned off.
