Feeding Your Pocket Sugar Glider

July 10th, 2008

A pocket sugar glider is an adorable little creature that can make the perfect pet for you. They are small, fun to play with, and once you have bonded with them, they can be very friendly. Like any other pets, you should always take care of them in order to keep them healthy. Food is one of the most important issues that you should pay attention to. You should always make sure that your pocket sugar glider consumes the right food so it will stay healthy.

First of all, you need to know that sugar gliders are omnivorous creatures. They will eat virtually anything that you give them. So, you need to make sure that your pocket sugar glider does not eat the wrong food.

The most important thing is to give your pocket sugar glider the proper nutrition. Sugar gliders only need three basic types of nutrition. They are proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables and some supplements. Once you can supply your pocket sugar glider with these three types of basic nutrition, they are most likely to stay healthy.

The best food for pocket sugar gliders consists of at least 75% fruits, berries and other plants. They need all of these fruits and vegetables as their main and core foods. For the rest 25%, you can feed them with live insects, baby birds, bird eggs and other small animals.

Live insects can be found in pet shops; however, you may need to put forth some effort to find other types of fresh meat.

However, if your sugar glider eats too much fresh meat, it could develop a musky odor. Other kinds of food that you can feed your sugar glider include scrambled or hard boiled eggs and tofu. These will cover their basic needs for protein.

Author’s Story of Child Abuse Supported by Justice Department Investigations

July 9th, 2008

Charles Carroll and his brother, Bobby, had the misfortune of being unwanted and hard-to-place foster children in the 1950s. So the powers that be simply reclassified them from “orphan” to “retarded” and exiled them to a state institution for the mentally retarded. There they remained for years, deprived of their civil liberties, devoid of their right to an education, and denied any semblance of a humane existence.

Carroll’s new memoir, HARD CANDY: Nobody Ever Flies Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, reveals the alarming abusesemotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse and pedophiliaendured by the author, his brother, and other residents. It’s written in the format of a novel; as a reader, you can easily lose yourself in Carroll’s world and think you’re reading fiction. But every so often, you’ll turn the page to discover a photograph depicting the scene you’ve just reada sobering reminder that this is, in fact, a shockingly true story.

“I chose to use the novel format because I felt this was the best way to tell my story,” says Carroll. “I think this really allowed me to communicate how I felt at the time things were happening to me. I had the freedom to bring the ‘characters’ to life and take the reader on the journey with me.” And what a journey that is. The author describesthrough the eyes of a child, but the sensitive introspection of an adulta world of living conditions so sadistic, so brutal and degrading, that “child abuse” seems a chillingly inadequate label.

Of course, that was fifty years ago. Such things could never happen today. Right?

Unfortunately, wrong.

“The Justice Department has been investigating state institutions across the U.S.more than 60 facilities in the last five years alone,” says Carroll. “Some of these have been developmental disability and mental retardation facilities. And, lo and behold, the New Lisbon Developmental Center in New Jersey, where my brother and I were committed, came under their radar screen.”

In fact, the book’s appendix offers startling evidence that abuses are anything but a thing of the past. The Justice Department’s investigation of New Lisbon, in 2001-2002, found continuous violations of residents’ civil rights and even life-threatening conditions. Investigations at other institutions bear striking similarities to one another and to New Lisbon: sexual abuse, physical abuse, and verbal abuse of residents (by staff and by other residents, even by other children); failure to report and follow up on incidents; inadequate psychiatric and medical care; inadequate education; inadequate habilitation programs (to prepare residents to function in society); and even a failure to provide basic sanitation. (For more details on the Justice Department probes under CRIPA, the Civil Rights for Institutionalized Persons Act, and a partial list of facilities investigated, go to www.usdoj.gov/crt/split/cripa.htm.)

“When I read the Justice Department reports,” relates Carroll, “all of my personal experiences came to mindthe abuse by staff, the attacks by other children, the unsanitary conditions, the feeling of futility when any of us tried to report an incident. In my book, I paint a pretty forthright picture of my life back then, with no apologies and no sugarcoating. But I also try to focus on how I survived, how my love for my brother kept me going. And I really want this book to be a voice for all those other children, victims like me, who can’t speak for themselves.”

As gut-wrenching as HARD CANDY is, it ultimately leaves the reader with a sense of that determination to survive and of the strong bond Carroll hadand haswith his brother, Bobby. “After we were released from the state system, I lost track of Bobby. When I found him, in 1988, I decided it was time to write this booksomething I had vowed to one day do when I was in my early teens.”

HARD CANDY has been the culmination of a long, hard road since Carroll’s days as a state ward. When he was finally released at the age of 16, he had the equivalent of a second grade education. He ended up in California and earned his diploma from Hollywood High School, then went on to earn an associate’s degree in sociology and came just one course short of receiving his bachelor’s degree from California State University. Carroll eventually started his own electrical contracting business, which supported him for twenty years.

That’s when he found Bobby and started working on the book. He spent six years doing research, and another seven years writing, for a total of 12 revisions. “Facing my past was difficult,” says the author. “I cried a lot, and the nightmares began all over again. But I persevered, and it ended up being a very cathartic processbetter than therapy. Today, I’m at peace with myself.”

Today, the brothers are reunited and living in Southern California. What does Carroll want to do now? “I want Bobby and I to stay together now, the way we started as children. And I want to raise public awareness of child abuse, pedophilia, and institutional abuseto try to prevent similar abuses from happening in the future. Otherwise, I want little else for myself.”

HARD CANDY: Nobody Ever Flies Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, by Charles A. Carroll, is available on Amazon and other online book retailers.

Cost vs Customer Control

July 9th, 2008

Last night I went to a local restaurant to purchase dinner for my family. I like this place. The food is eclectic and well prepared. They had a special written on their chalk board. It sounded great, turkey meatloaf. I knew that their version would be perfect and I ordered it.

The waitress told me it came with mashed potatoes and wilted spinach. Well I am watching my carb intake and I asked if they could substitute vegetables for the mashed potatoes. She thought not, but would go in the back and ask the chef. The answer came back “NO”. I asked if I could have more spinach instead of the potatoes. She said “NO.” “Why not?” I asked. She replied “cost control, spinach costs more than potatoes.” Well, I knew that this was a small, probably struggling business and I could appreciate the need to be cost sensitive, so I offered. “No problem, I’ll pay extra for the spinach” (I’m thinking that I will get the award for most understanding and reasonable customer of the month)

But boy was I wrong! Not only did I not get the coveted most reasonable customer award, I got one more big “NO!” At this point I was frustrated at their unwillingness to meet my needs and I left without ordering anything.

So their cost control efforts created a profit control of much bigger proportions. Even though they had saved money on the vegetables they had lost my four dinner orders that evening, which didn’t seem to phase the waitperson or chef one bit.

Clearly this was not a cost control issue, this was a control issue. The chef had created a “perfect combo” and was not about to ruin his piece of art for a mere customer. He was devoted to his vision and not his customer’s needs. He forgot he only gets to create because of people like me, his customer.

Perhaps as you read this you are thinking, wow I would NEVER treat my customers that way. Maybe you wouldn’t. But if you have said “no” to your customer in the last month, you might have to rethink that idea.

Sometimes our customers are unreasonable. Sometimes they ask for outrageous things. But sometimes it is easier for us to say “no” then to find a creative solution that meets everyone needs.

The next time you are about to say “no” to your customer, stop for a moment, catch your breath and instead say “Let me see what I can do.” If nothing else the customer will feel that you are on their side and trying to help them. Then get creative and find a way to give your customer what they need.

Picking Politicians as Hurricane Names

July 8th, 2008

Currently we are allowing the World Meteorological Organization WMO, a UN Agency names the Hurricanes of the year prior to the season. But like the Oil for Foods Scandal, they came up a little short having only named 21 storms for the whole season. This is obviously a problematic group for predicting trends in the world, although we have come to expect this.

Around the turn of the century in Australia they did not ever argue what the names of Hurricanes would be, they simply named them after politicians. This was very wise indeed. Consider if we did this in the United States, you have plenty of possible pathetic politicians to name them after. Most politicians are disasters in themselves, wasting taxpayer’s money on stupid things and causing a mess of our civilization so the analogy fits well even in our current period. Image Hurricane Daschle dashing in, devastating, destroying and deluging Daytona. There might be a Hurricane Kerry cruising in like a windsurfer killing the Carolina Coast? How about Hurricane Oxley obliterating Orleans via Ocean surge. Politicians are wrecking our civilization with their rhetoric and bad decisions, so it makes sense to name the Hurricanes after politicians.

Since the UN names these things and did not have enough names, instead of starting over with the Greek Alphabet. We can start by naming them after UN politicians like Koffee Anan? Just imagine Hurricane Anan attempting to annihilate Atlantic City, which would be fitting as he actively gambled with security allowing the absconding of billions in the Oil for Food Scandal?

Three Easiest Ways to get Lead and Selling Product

July 4th, 2008

One-step marketing is the most common marketing strategy used by marketers online. You send an advertisement by email, or a flyer, and expect people to immediately purchase your product or service.

This strategy totally disregards the ‘psychological buying sequence of consumers’ - and is regarded as the least effective way to market online.

It’s very much like walking up to a stranger at a party and asking ‘Would you marry me?’

What do you think the response would be? To increase conversion rates, you must develop a sales process which involves multiple contacts with your prospects. If marketers still continue that marketing strategy, of course marketers will spend much money and times useless. Let’s see obstacles below:

1. Building sand castles on the beach:
Sand castles do not last, they get wiped out by crashing waves and blowing winds. To guarantee future success for your web-business you’ll need to use strong materials to build upon.

2. Barking up the wrong tree:

If you are unaware of which paid advertising sources are actually getting good returns for your investments you’ll dry up your wallet in no time by spending too much on unproductive and worthless advertising.

How to solve the obstacles above! Many marketers don’t know how to solve them. According to us, building list is the best to choose. Questions will come to our mind how to build list as easy as possible, because many promotions offer to give guarantee that many leads will come to your site. Let’s see a strategy below:

1. A way to capture qualified leads.

To capture qualified leads is not easy. There are many marketers get many leads easy, but as matter of fact is only spam. Many third party have been planning, testing, preparing successfully building the strategy. And success
to overcome these challenges. There is a guarantee also that every member will get free qualified leads during still member.

2. A way to follow up with these leads.

What will you do after building list. Publish a Newsletter is a wisdom way. By publishing the Newsletter, you can communicate with your list and promote your product, program. Content of your Newsletter is dominant to attract your list to stay as your contact list. You can take many qualified articles from the others electronic magazine freely.

3. A way to introduce other related products to your clients and potential clients.

After publishing a Newsletter, the way to promote a product and program is opened. You can place banner Ad, word ad and stand alone solo ad on your Newsletter. Inland Empire

July 3rd, 2008

Many are traveling over the long holiday weekend to areas outside of the Inland Empire. The 4th of July is almost here and everybody is leaving work early or taking the entire day off, to get a head start on the festivities. This means that the roads are jam packed with SUV’s and vans and lifted trucks and other vehicles that muscle their way around this area normally. No on of sound mind can say their looking forward to that. In fact many, because of poor economic conditions and the insane price of gas these days, aren’t traveling. They are choosing instead to stay local and save money.

Of the areas in southern California that are hurting the most from the depressed economic conditions, the Inland Empire is feeling it the most. The housing slump started everything off with record foreclosures every month. This was followed by the lightening quick jump in gas prices, which took out everyone’s personal petty cash and continues to do so. That means that normal working individuals can no longer afford to get their morning or early afternoon latte at Starbucks anymore because the money just isn’t there to do it anymore. In fact, Starbucks just reported that they are closing over 600 underperforming stores in the US. This is quite unprecedented for a chain that has for the past decade or two, spread like wildfire all over the world.

For the Inland Empire, people are finally starting to regret purchasing those gas guzzling trucks and spending all their money on sand toys but don’t know what to do beyond that to save money. One solution for businesses is for Inland Empire web design to improve. Once this happens on a massive scale, business investors might again see this area as a good prospect with which to bring their company into.

Experience the World of Formula One Autosport Courses

July 3rd, 2008

An established Formula 1 course more often than not features an extended portion of straight tarmac on which the starting rows are positioned. The pit lane, where the Formula 1 drivers enter for fuel and tyres during the race, & where the F1 constructors operate on the Formula One cars ahead of the Formula 1 motor race, is commonly positioned in parallel to the starting rows. The design of the other parts of the track varies widely, although in certain cases the race course runs in a clockwise direction. Those few race tracks that go anticlockwise (and thus have mostly left-handed turns) can cause drivers health issues owing to the massive lateral forces generated by Formula One engines dragging their heads in the opposite direction to normal.

Many of the race circuits presently in use are particularly made for racing days. The modern street tracks are the Circuit de Monaco and Melbourne, although races in other countries come & go (Las Vegas and Detroit) & plans for such grand prixs are time and again talked about ? recently London and Beirut. A number of other courses are also entirely or partially laid out on normal public roads, for example Spa-Francorchamps. The charm and reputation of the Monaco Formula 1 grand prix are the chief explanations why the circuit is still in use, since it’s thought not to meet the high safety rules forced on other race tracks. Three-time F1 World champion Nelson Piquet famously described racing in Monte Carlo as “like riding a bicycle in your own living room”. Visit the F1Tribute.com website to find information about Formula 1.

Jumpstart Your Business

July 3rd, 2008

The beginning of a new year can be a great time for your home-based business. There are many ways that you can use this time of year to begin new growth and continue the rush from the holiday season.

For many people, January is the time of year that they reflect upon their lives. New Year’s resolutions are made and goals for the New Year are set. Many women in our society are unhappy in the corporate world and seeking to make a change and enter the home-based working world. What better time of year to be presenting your home-based business opportunity as often as possible?

There are many ways to go about the task of increasing your business and recruiting. Take time before the New Year begins to make a list of strategies that you can implement to get your name out there. Also, think about what small changes you can make to increase customer loyalty, repeat business and other business aspects like these.

If your goal is to increase recruitment for business partners, consider finding a Leads program in which to take part. Many times these programs can provide you with interested home-based business seekers with which to share your business opportunities. Look for a program that is suited to your particular business or beliefs. There are many different types of Leads programs available on the internet - take the time to find the one that suits you, your business and your budget best.

A great recruiting tool is to sponsor contests. You can do this both online and in your local area. This can create a “buzz” about your business and provide you with names of people who might be interested in your business opportunity. One “out of the box” way that I have heard of the contest sponsorship idea being done is to put contest entry boxes in local women’s fitness clubs or places that would fit your particular business. Use “Customer Care Cards” as the entry forms so that you can collect the name, address, phone number and email address of the person entering your contest. Follow up with a phone call to each and every entry. Some may be interested in hosting a party for you or in hearing about your business opportunity.

Maybe your goal this New Year isn’t recruitment, but sales growth. Make a list of creative ways that you can encourage customers to consider your products. You can jumpstart this year’s sales by offering “After Christmas” specials, after-purchase freebies, contests and more.

One way that many home-based business owners online neglect to take advantage of is the signature line in emails and when posting in forums. This can be a great tool to advertise your business, specials and contests. I receive many emails from business owners who do not include a signature line with their business name, and sometimes they fail to even put their name at the end of the email! This is not only unprofessional, but makes it much more difficult to find out more about their business. Every email sent this way is a potential sale lost.

The “freebie” is another great sales booster. Everybody (especially women) loves to get something for nothing. Consider offering a small thank you token when a purchase is made. No matter how inexpensive the value of the “freebie” may be, it can still be a great incentive! It can also foster customer loyalty and repeat business.

If you have an online business reciprocal linking can be a great way to jumpstart business. The more sites that link to yours, the more visits your website will receive. Linking also helps you place higher in Search Engine listings. Take the time to search for sites with similar content and request a link exchange. This is almost always a win-win situation for both sites.

Jumpstarting your business for the New Year can be a challenge, but if you take the time to be creative and put some effort towards it, it can be very rewarding. Use the resources available in this information age: Leads Programs, Link Exchanges and signature lines. God Bless you in the New Year!
